The major advantage that 64 bit provides is being able to address large amounts of RAM (> 2GB), but if, like most people, you’re not needing to use that much, the advantages of 64 bit may not be very significant. There is no 64 bit Mac OS available yet, so if you’re thinking of a Mac Pro, it’s not a big deal to worry about yet. Blender can use up to 8 cores (threads) in rendering and compositing, so yes it would take full advantage of the 8 core Mac Pro.Īs for 64 bit, people have compiled 64 bit versions for Linux and Windows, but there hasn’t been an official 64 bit release yet since there are currently some incompatibilities when linking data between 32 bit and 64 bit.
Is Blender a 64 bit program so it will take advantage of the dual core and quad core CPUs and 64 bit OSs?īeing able to use more than one CPU core doesn’t have anything to do with being 64 bit, they’re quite separate issues. I’d like to try out some character animation with Blender.
